While people have achieved very great and highly admirable physical achievements on Technology and Modernization fronts, they have been drawn very far off from their internal wealth/treasure and their sentiments and, like in any other field, this fact equally applies to the field of education also. The relations between a Guru and his disciple and a teacher and his student have got transformed and converted in to purely the professional relations between them. Under the circumstances, if we all really want to revive/regain the treasure of all those cultures of our old ancient India and want to keep the respect and honor, the glory and self-consciousness alive, we all will have to start developing the Human Values in people from the Education Field only. With a noble and valuable aim, idea and spirit of doing this, Yogi Divine Society had, on Sunday, the 6th March 2016, organized a one day seminar on ‘Human Values in Higher Education’ at Atmiya Vidya Dham, Bakrol, Anand in which, more than around 750 teachers and principals as well as very highly educated people had participated.

The system of Guru and disciple has been in existence in Indian Education since thousands of years. Several such examples of this system, right from Vashishtha-Ram, Sandipani-Krishna, Chanakya- Chandragupta up to that of Ramdas-Shivaji and many more have already been recorded on the pages of Indian history. The life of all these Gurus/teachers was a source of inspiration, not only for their disciples but, for the entire mankind. The life of their disciples/students has changed the entire flow/system of society in every age. But, the blind imitation of modernization through the education system established by Lord Macaulay made the education purely and only a business. We, the Indians, as per our culture, used to treat our gurus as our fathers in our Indian education system and honored them accordingly but, those gurus, who had become teachers from gurus (Shikshak), had made the education a business, a source of income only, as a result of which, as the time passed, the education remained limited up to only a source/medium of transferring the information which, ultimately evaporated the spirit of making, training and developing a good society by properly educating the students through the real cultures with human values in them.

Deeply studying, understanding and analyzing all these points/questions touching/affecting the entire society, Yogi Divine Society had, as a small spark to spread the light, organized a one day seminar on “Human Values in Education”. Professor Dr. R. Pradeepkumar from I.I.T., Hyderabad had come to give the benefit of his knowledge in this seminar. All the principals, teachers, professors and the well-known highly educated personalities from Anand and Kheda districts had started registering their names 15 days ahead of seminar by online registration and, on the day of seminar, they all had occupied their seats in the audience hall in highly disciplined manner like the students of professor Dr. R. Pradeepkumar for one day. The other renowned guests included personalities like General Secretary of BJP Shri Shabdasharanbhai Brahmabhatt , Minister Shri Devusinhbhai Chouhan, MLA Shri Rohitbhai Patel, BJP President of Anand Dist. Shri Maheshbhai Patel, BJP President of Kheda Dist. Shri Sureshbhai Bhatt, Shri Parindu Bhagat, Shri Kakubhai (Director, I.O.C.), Shri Vipulbhai Patel, Shri Dinsha Patel and others.

After lighting a lamp to inaugurate the seminar, P. Guruprasadswami had, on behalf of Yogi Divine Society, while explaining the spirit and the purpose/intention/necessity behind organizing such a seminar, had made a meaningful irony and said that, nothing in the world can stop India from becoming a charming, sweet and colorful garden, if the teachers of a land like ours, possessing the intellectuals of highest level of the world, perform their duty rightly/properly and teach their students the lessons of Human Values. He had also presented a picture of life spirit of P.P. Hariprasadswamiji by narrating an incident from the life of a student from Harisaurabh Hostel and explained as to what type of high and unique culture He is pouring in the students.

This was followed by welcome to the main speaker of today’s seminar Prof. Dr. R. Pradeepkumar by offering him a bouquet by P. Anandsagarswami on behalf of Yogi Divine Society. Then, Prof. Dr. R. Pradeepkumar had, by narrating different beautiful quotations in Hindi and English in his lovely speech, talked of importance of Human Values in the education. He explained that, any child, who starts his studies at his age of 5 or 6 years and continues it till he becomes a graduate or the post graduate, he remains in touch/contact with his teachers and, these years of his life are the most important/valuable for making his proper/real life. According to psychology, during this period, the proportion of maturity of the students is less and of blind imitation is more. We can mold the life of such small children like the soft plants in any way we want. But, for this, the teachers and the educationists have got to create a positive atmosphere. They have got to provide such noble examples by their own thoughts, speeches and actions which inspire and encourage the students to follow them most readily and willingly. This flow of touching and effective speech by Prof. Dr. R. Pradeepkumar, which started at 10:15 a.m., stopped right at 1:30 p.m. for lunch break only.

After the guests and all others who attended the shibir had finished their lunch in the dining hall of Atmiya Vidya Dham, the 2nd session of the shibir started at 2:30 p.m. when, Professor Dr. Pradeepkumar, while continuing further his speech said that, the 3 points like good culture, punctuality and the discipline are the most important factors of one’s life and, all those, who possess these 3 factors, will have more sensitive feelings and the compassion for others and the society as a whole, as a result of which, the entire society will rightly progress in the company of each other and, the duty and the responsibility of this, is on the shoulders of all those gurus/teachers who are associated with the profession of education. In the end, while making a sweet irony to the teachers for treating the students as the citizens and the future of tomorrow’s nation and not only as a customer for their source of income, he advised them to cultivate them rightly/properly, before ending his speech.

Then, while thanking the entire group of teachers present there, P. Tyagvallabhswami said in speech that, it is in our own hands only, to properly/perfectly use/follow the knowledge and guidance that we all have received here. If we really look at the opportunity that we all have got, of working as a teacher, as a chance to serve the society and presenting our devotion towards our nation, we will feel and enjoy the satisfaction of being an instrument in bringing the bright future for our nation which is progressing on the path of glory and, that will be a highly valuable treasure of our life.

At the end of the seminar, P. Guruprasadswami and P. Viththaldas Patel (Secretary) both jointly honored Prof. Dr. R. Pradeepkumar by offering him a shawl.

All those present in this seminar who were associated with the teaching profession in one way or the other, had, while got an entirely a new point of view, also realized an opportunity for them to be helpful in the making of successful life of students to build an educated society and a strong nation. All the experts present there had, highly and whole heartedly, appreciated such activities/efforts/desire of Yogi Divine Society to be, directly and indirectly, helpful in building a strong, progressive and educated nation.
